Deep blue was rare in painting until traders brought the brilliant new pigment, lapis lazuli, from the East. One of the leading miniaturists, Nicholas Hilyard, used this almost exclusively in his almost irridescent backgrounds of jewel-like Elizabethan portraits.
One of a new range of Rainbow colours dyed over different bases; full descriptions of all the bases are available below.
Available dyeing styles – please convo me if your preference is not listed. Most of the colours dyed on the triple blend base are soft stripe.
Gradient: A soft merging of colours in succession
Soft stripe: a rather random repeating uneven series of colours
Double ended braid (not available on Merino): colour repeats twice in mirror image on the braid; useful for repeating patterns or matching two plies in spinning.
This roving is NOT superwash treated. All colours are small batch hand-dyed using low acid dyes.
The photos are examples of the different colours. All my wool is dyed in small batches - although not truly repeatable, batches are close enough to use more than one together.
My fibre comes from a smokefree, pet-free environment.
Your monitor settings may affect the colours you see; colours may vary slightly from batch to batch.
