Needle Felting

A relatively new feature on the craft scene, needle felting has been “borrowed” by crafters from industry and is now a very popular alternative to wet felting. A barbed needle is thrust repeatedly through layers of wool to entangle the fibres. Needle felting is very creative, and can be used to add surface decoration to woven or felted garments or to join pieces of felt together (it's also great for fixing thin places in pre-felts), but perhaps its most creative use is in producing 3-D items such as toys and novelty figures. Needle felt artists vie with each other to create the most realistic (and/or the most imaginative) items.
This beautiful dressed mouse is just one of many fabulously cute mini-creations made by Barby Anderson (barby303 on Etsy) - instructions are available to buy as downloadable PDF patterns.
Because Heavenly Wools’ sliver is hand-dyed, the colours blend in and out of each other forming unique mixes between the more obvious shades. Needle felters will find a wealth of interesting blends that can be picked out and used separately, or may prefer to blend the colours together, resulting in subtle iridescent mixes.
